Richard Winkworth’s work depicts stylistic and vibrantly coloured still-lifes. The cups, bowls, plates and jars, however, are arranged to create visual illusions of perceived space, creating distortions of scale which have the power to make any space seem larger.
Educated at Brighton University, UK, he completed his formal training with an MA from the prestigious Chelsea School of Art, London. Since his graduation in 1986 he has exhibited across the world including Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, USA and the United Kingdom, most recently holding a solo exhibition at John Martin Gallery, London in 2005. In 1991 he was awarded the Spectator Magazine First Prize and Purchase.
His work is represented in the corporate collections of Unilever, Xerox, Mandarin Oriental and Adam & Co, to name just a few and can be found in private collections worldwide. Richard Winkworth was born in India and spent his formative years in South East Asia.
